In other words, the food that you consume influences every decision you make and every step you take in life. A good diet that provides balanced nutrition to the body is the best type of diet.</p>

In order to provide variety to diet, there are different kinds of diet plans that you can choose from. Furthermore, it is important to understand the essence of different food products so that you can partake each of them in moderation and stay fit. However, a good diet can work in an optimum manner only when clubbed with physical activities. Below given are three types of diets that have been elucidated in ayurveda. In addition to these, there is a fourth kind of diet that is mostly followed all over the world and is a combination or the three basic types of diets.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">Tamasic diet is a very unhealthy diet and something that has to be kept away from. Foods included in this category are stale and left over food, dead meat that is not fresh but processed, foods that have been grown by making use of pesticides and foods that contain too high calories such as sugars and artificial sweetners. Consuming this kind of food leads to a number of ailments. Energies in the body are disrupted and people fall prey to different chronic diseases. This may be due to the fact they desire a longer lie in prior to work or simply have become used to not indulging before lunch.  Eating breakfast however is the best way to kick-start your metabolism and will in turn give you the energy you need to get through the rest of the day.<br />
Many cereals found in the supermarket are full of sugar and salt, which means buying organic is often the only way forward.  A better idea of course is to invest in a few wholesome ingredients and make your own!</p>
<p>This simple recipe for granola is a great option for those who wish to up their omega 3 levels and once made it will last you up to a month.<br />
Ingredients are as follows:</p>
<ul>
<li> 3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats</li>
<li> 1 cup unsalted, sliced, almonds</li>
<li> 1 cup green, unsalted pumpkin seeds</li>
<li> 3 tablespoons flax seeds</li>
<li> 1/2 cup chopped unsalted walnuts</li>
<p><span id="more-550"></span></p>
<li> 1 cup toasted wheat germ</li>
<li> 1/4 cup unsalted sunflower seeds</li>
<li> 1/2-teaspoon ground cinnamon</li>
<li> 1/4-teaspoon ground nutmeg</li>
<li> 1/2-cup maple syrup</li>
<li> 1/2-teaspoon pure vanilla essence</li>
<li> 1-cup raisins (optional)</li>
<li> Salt to taste, a pinch or up to 1/4 teaspoon</li>
</ul>
<p><em>All of the above ingredients are available from your local health food store; you can even add a few of your own ingredients to the mix if you wish.</em></p>
<p><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-551" title="breakfast" src="http://www.healthnative.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/breakfast-300x240.jpg" alt="breakfast" width="400" height="240" /><br />
Once you have sourced all the ingredients you will need to preheat the oven to 325° F. Mix the oats, pumpkin seeds, nuts, wheat germ and seeds in a large bowl, then toss together.  The next step requires you to add the raisins; if you are not a fan of raisins you could substitute this ingredient for another preferred dried fruit, such as cranberries or dates.  Each substitute is equally as health beneficial and both are just as tasty!  Add salt, cinnamon and nutmeg then stir the mixture together in order to combine all of the ingredients.  Add the syrup and vanilla to create a thick texture and then fold the mixture until all of the ingredients have received an equal coating of the syrup and vanilla combination.</p>
<p>The next stage requires you to coat the mixture onto two large baking trays lined with parchment paper, as this will mean there will be no chance of the mixture sticking to the tray.<br />
The final stage requires you to bake the mixture until golden brown, you should however stir the granola halfway through and switch racks for best results.  After about 40 minutes cool completely by leaving the tray on the rack.</p>
<p>Once you have completed this procedure you can store the homemade granola in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one month.  The homemade granola tastes great served with either milk or natural yogurt and the best bit, it’s all natural!</p>

<p>Generally junk foods are easy to buy and can be prepared with in a short time. Street foods and fast foods also come under the category of junk food. You might wonder how street foods can be classified as a junk food.  It is mainly because street foods are normally cooked under unhealthy conditions.<span id="more-259"></span> On the other hand fast foods are normally cooked and served with in a short time and such type of foods normally doesn’t have any nutritional value. Moreover junk foods simply build up empty calories in your body which can cause <a title="Obesity" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obesity" target="_blank"><strong>obesity</strong></a> and other health related problems to the eater.</p>

The factors that contribute to the healthy life in old age are good nutrition, hygiene, antibiotics and medicines to prevent any disease. There will be some metabolic changes in the old age.</p>

<p>Most old age people tend to lose considerable weight. Their diet usually becomes unbalanced if they are living alone as they become very reluctant to cook by themselves. They also avoid going to restaurant and often skip the meals. They start to rely on the snacks and tea.</p>
<p><span id="more-99"></span>Their diet may be still restricted considering the fact that they have high blood pressure, cardiac failure, diabetes and other disease. <p>In old age, they cannot adjust to the constant variations in the intake of water. The old people have 7-8 lts less body water of the same weight with a person of about 35 years of age. The old people have also impaired response to the dehydration. This is due to the presence of high sodium levels in the blood. Their urine is not concentrated and their thirst sensation will not be so acute.</p>
<p>Their bones may become weak due to the deficiencies of calcium, vitamins, minerals, proteins and hormones. So diet should be designed in order to fulfill these requirements. Osteomalacia is very common in old people and especially in women. This happens due to the deficiency of vitamin D, phosphorous and low serum calcium. Osteomalacia can take form as back pain, bone pain, muscle weakness and neck fractures. Diet is provided in such a way that it fulfills these requirements.</p>
<p>Some of the elderly people use medicine for the normal passage of the urine but this causes the level of the serum sodium to be decreased. The low level causes confusion, weakness, giddiness and fits. This also causes heartbeat irregularities.</p>
<p>The protein deficiencies are common in old people. Protein rich foods like meat and eggs are given. For vegetarians, food substances like pulses are rich in proteins and can be added to the regular diet daily. The basic requirement for a person is about 70 g of proteins. If this amount cannot be given by diet, it is given by protein supplementation.</p>
<p>Fats are reduced because they are difficult to be digested. About 40 g of fats can be added to the diet daily. Carbohydrates are a very good source of energy. Foods like bread, cakes, biscuits and pastries are very good source of carbohydrates.</p>

<p>The research is conducted by 23 experts who studied 12 common cancers along with the relevant data on diet, weight and exercise, to analyze the contribution of these factors in the development of mouth, lung, kidney, gallbladder and some of the other cancers. Findings disclosed by the research, showed how healthier living could have prevented about one third of the most common cancers.</p>
<p><span id="more-28"></span>In America, the same improving diet, weight control and exercise would put a stop to 12 most common cancers including stomach, prostate, and pancreas, womb and esophagus tumors. The results complement the study conducted in 2007 which demonstrated the significance of growing and eating factors in cancer development.</p>
<p>“Most of the cancers are preventable”, said researchers. Like other experts, from health departments and U.N Health Organization, they also urged the people to adopt the diets based on vegetables, fruits and whole grains with a lower ratio of dairy products, fats and red meats.</p>
<p>As representatives of low-and middle-income countries, the research team also took the notice of China and Brazil.</p>
